A certified nursing assistant (CNA) is a healthcare professional who provides basic care for patients in a variety of settings, such as nursing homes, hospitals, and assisted living facilities. CNAs work under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and are responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

  • Aiding patients with ADLs, such as bathing, dressing, and eating
  • Measuring and documenting vital signs, such as blood pressure and temperature
  • Turning and repositioning bedridden patients to prevent bed sores
  • Collecting specimens for laboratory tests
  • Monitoring and noting any changes in patient’s conditions

They are an essential part of the healthcare team and play a crucial role in providing compassionate and dignified care to patients.
