A licensed practical nurse (LPN) is a healthcare professional who provides basic patient care under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and physicians. LPNs are liable for a variety of tasks, including:
- Measuring and documenting vital signs
- Assisting with ADLs, such as bathing, dressing, and eating
- Administering prescriptions as prescribed by a physician
- Caring for wounds and changing bandages
- Collecting specimens for laboratory tests
- Monitoring and noting any changes in patient’s conditions
